DC Trip

Jenn and I spent thanksgiving with the Maloneys in Virginia. We had a great time, the highlight for me was spending Saturday in Washington DC, seeing all the sights. Below are a few of the pictures I took during the day.

Sunset on the Capital Building Posted by Picasa

The Washington Monument: very impressive, a lot bigger when you get up close. Posted by Picasa

The White House is a lot smaller than I thought it would be. You'd think with all the money Bush is getting from invading Iraq for the oil he would put an extension on the house or something. Posted by Picasa

I have two little sisters now, Alison had to work but Sharon came with us. Posted by Picasa

This is a new memorial, nice one G dub. I think Spielberg and Tom Hanks were big players in getting this monument established. Posted by Picasa

I like this picture of Jenn Posted by Picasa

The reflecting pool on the mall. It was very cool to imagine all the things that have gone on here, like the "I have a dream speech." Posted by Picasa

The Lincoln Memorial was pretty impressive, all marble. Abe was getting some dental work done the day we were there though Posted by Picasa

Jenn and I outside G Dub's crib. That fence is not very high, wouldn't take much to get over it. Posted by Picasa

Since I last blogged about BBall we have had three games. Our record for the three games is 2-1 which brings our season record to 4-1. Tonight we played one of the best teams in the league, and we were missing a lot of guys including our best player Russell. The score was 106 to 86 which is fairly respectable under the circumstances, last season they blew us out by 60 points.
Personal performance: 20 points
Season scoring average 14.6 point per game.

Just got back from the Mecca with Jenn. I had the eleven mile burger, which is about a half pound patty loaded with mushrooms and grilled onions and oh so greasy. Next time I go there I will just save the trouble and connect an IV straight from the deep fat fryer into my veins. How can something be so wrong, but so right at the same time? It probably took a couple of months off my life expectancy, oh well, I've had a good run.

Petra farewell tour

I just read in Christian Music Planet magazine that Petra is going on a farewell tour. I remember when I was going through my teenage years Petra was my favorite band, by far. It's funny that we used to regard their music as being "heavy". When the album "On Fire" came out I remember thinking "whoa, this is pretty heavy stuff". When you compare it to some of the heavy christian stuff today Petra is pretty tame. Let me just annoint Petra as the greatest christian "hair band" of all time. Back in the day they were easily the biggest thing in christian music. I remeber going to see them at Jesus Northwest about 12 years ago. That was a great experience, the first big concert that I had ever been to. What stands out to me now as I think about it is louie weaver's drum solo, with strobe lights and all kinds of effects, just epic. That what kinds of bugs me about christian music today, there doesn't seem to be many bands that write good songs and have mad instrumental skills. The band has changed now and only John Schlitt, the lead singer who must be about 95 years old, remains. So Petra is calling it a day and I just wanted to give props to the most influential band of my adolecent years.
Classic Petra:
This Means War
Beyond Belief
Any of the old stuff before opera singer schlitt was front man
On Fire

Favorite Petra song of all time: .....Probably "This Means War"

I just went on the Petra sight and it looks as though Bob Hartman, guitar legend, is still with the band, he's an original, and wrote most of the songs.

More Hoops

2-0, last night we won by about 30 which takes us to 2 wins on the season. The team we played against was a philipino team, and they brought half the philipino community to the gym. It was 41-13 at half time, still everytime they scored a basket 50 philipinos would scream at the top of their lungs. And I mean scream, we're not talking "yay team" we're talking "ARRRGGHH" like someone was indiscriminatley swinging a chainsaw in the crowd. I scored 13 points, but didn't shoot that much, went 4 for 4 from the line. Caskey dropped 33 but then I could probably score 33 if I shot the ball 57 times. Good win though, easy win.
Season scoring average 12.5 points
Record 2-0
